I subscribed to Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited when they had a “3 months free” promotion. After that, the subscription would be $11.99 per month. My mom raved about Kindle Unlimited, so I decided to cave when this deal came around.
My local library has a fantastic book selection and also has Libby, so I can check out eBooks as well. However, the wait has been weeks and weeks for new/popular titles.

I read predominately on my Kindle web browser or the Kindle app on my Fire Tablet. You must use Kindle software. If you do not have access to the Kindle app or web browser, the subscription does not have any benefits.

Pros:
- I genuinely like the Kindle app. I like being able to highlight sections. If you have internet access, Kindle allows you to “pick up where you left off” across multiple devices.
- Audiobooks! I still haven’t made up my mind on whether or not I like audiobooks, but it is nice to have that option. Look for an upcoming post about my thoughts on audiobooks!
Cons:
- Kindle Unlimited has over 4 million titles, but it can still feel limited. If there is a specific book you want to read, chances are it won’t be on Kindle Unlimited. So far I have had decent luck with finding books I want to read, but I feel like their fantasy and non-fiction sections are lacking. I would suggest seeing what’s available on Kindle Unlimited before you sign up.
- You can only have up to 10 titles on your Kindle at once – this seems like a lot, but your library fills up fast. Since I am writing reviews, it really makes me sit down and type out the review before starting other books.
- You don’t own the books. However, if you use Amazon Prime many times they’ll provide an option of changing an item’s delivery day in return for digital credit. So if I like the Kindle Unlimited book I just read, I’ll use any credits I have to buy it so I’ll always have a copy 😊
Some of the books I’ve enjoyed so far:
- The Housemaid – Freida McFadden
- A Light in the Forest – Melissa Payne
- Daughter of No Worlds – Carissa Broadbent
- The Serpent and the Wings of Night – Carissa Broadbent
- Divine Rivals – Rebecca Ross
- The Inheritance Games – Jennifer Lynn Barnes
So is it Worth it??
I gave it a fair shot for the three months of my free subscription period, but I am disappointed in some of the selections. There are tons of romance books on there if romance is your thing. I read A LOT of books, so $11.99 is a fair price point for the amount that I read. Since I’m not necessarily checking out titles I would normally read, it helps expand my horizons a bit as a reader, but I know what I like and don’t want to slog through a book just for the sake of reading it. Although I’m keeping my subscription for the time being, my final verdict is maybe worth it. I try to always give a definitive stance (hence Bookmark or Bin It), but Kindle Unlimited is truly dependent on the kind of content the reader enjoys.

Happy reading 😊
