Hello and welcome to Bowers Bookmarks where we talk about all things books. My name is Kimberly and I’m a chemist, runner, vegetarian, dog mom, paddleboarding enthusiast, craft beer lover, and most importantly a reader. I’ve been married to my amazing husband Cooper since 2020. He is my best friend, fellow book lover, and the man behind the camera for most (if not all) my pictures. I decided to start Bowers Bookmarks to chat about the books I was reading and other novel nonsense.
“Reading one book is like eating one potato chip.” – Diane Duane
So… let’s address the elephant in the room. I’ve never had a website or blog before, unless you count the fake website I made in an entry level computer science class. If you’re going to count that, then I also have photoshop and animation experience! But seriously, I am learning as I go, and I am so glad you are with me for the journey!
In 2022 I challenged myself to read 100 books. I completed that goal on December 31, 2022. For 2023, I challenged myself to write a short review on Goodreads for every book I read. The more involved I became on Goodreads, the more reviews I read, and I saw many users linking their blogs. I thought, “I should do that!” So, my 2024 goal of starting a book review website was born.
Now let’s back up a bit…
How did I get into reading? I’ve loved reading ever since I was a kid. My mom was an avid reader, and like any kid I wanted to do everything she did. I loved going to the library and picking out books. Then I got my first e-reader (Nook Color) in high school! It was awesome to have as many books as I could read right there. It was a good thing I didn’t have a credit card at the time because I would’ve spent all my hard-earned money on books. I continued reading throughout college and connected with my apartment neighbor (now husband) over our mutual love of reading. While he has more physical copies of books than me, I am steadily building my collection!
Rapid fire questions:
- Series that got me into reading? Fallen by Lauren Kate
- Current favorite series? Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
- Favorite book? Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
- Favorite genres? Fantasy/romantasy, historical fiction, and dystopian
- Favorite quote about reading? “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss
Meet the Pets!
All my animals are named after Edgar Allan Poe. I was born in Baltimore (go Ravens!) and that is where Poe is from. From left to right we have Annabel Lee (Annie for short), Edgar Allan (Eddy for short), and Lenore (Nori for short).

Thanks for stopping by and happy reading! 😊
PS, no books have fallen in the water during the paddleboarding adventures… yet! Hopefully I didn’t jinx myself!

Whoa! This blog looks just like my old one!
It’s on a entirely different topic but it has
pretty much the same layout and design. Superb choice of colors!
